Born in Louisiana, Jennifer O’Brien has always had a deep connection to all things culinary. After attending an arts conservatory and moving to NYC to become an actress, she quickly decided to change course and followed her roots to the kitchen.
During Culinary school, Chef Jennifer had the honor of staging at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. She then landed a position on the line with Chef Daniel Humm at Eleven Madison Park.
Eager to become a leader, Jennifer took a position with Hillstone Restaurant Group where she worked four years as a chef and ultimately the Director of Culinary Training for all incoming managers.
When Jennifer and her husband packed up a car to move to Austin, TX on a bit of a whim, she had no idea the amazing opportunity that would be within her reach in the world of hotels. Jennifer took a role as Executive Chef of Corner restaurant and served on the opening team of JW Austin. She was able to play a large role in developing and elevating the F&B outlet experience for White Lodging for three years.
Through connections forged after being awarded the ACE Award for Rising Star Chef with Marriott Intl, Jennifer was elated to be invited to join the Global Operations team as Senior Manager, Culinary Luxury.
In her new role, Chef Jennifer has thus far been focusing on enhancement of the F&B experience for guests visiting Marriott’s growing luxury tier. Another target for Jennifer has been an initiative to help elevate women in Marriott F&B leadership. Together with a team of supportive leaders and a group of women chefs, she has helped highlight the opportunity to tap into the underutilized female culinary workforce. By developing paths forward for our female artisans and leaders, she hopes we can continue growing, supporting and paving the way for them to become leaders in the F&B industry.
Additionally, she and her team have been expanding their work supporting local food rescue programs in the region and skill-based volunteerism with DC Central Kitchen. The Marriott Serve 360 initiative has been top of mind in many of her endeavors.
