Cynthia Sikora is the Industry Outreach & Technical Activities Director of the IEEE Communications Society. In this role, she works with the volunteer leadership to improve the technical value and engagement with industry as well as drives society initiatives, Technical Activities and Educational Programs.
Dr. Sikora worked at Bell Labs for many years. As their Global Strategic Programs Director and the Government Compliance Director, her teams focused on programs that supported research and innovation by creating collaborative opportunities and building bridges between organizations. Programs included the E2E 5G Network Solutions Lab, U.S. Government Research Contracts, STEM Outreach Program, Student Programs, University Collaborations, Future Technology Research, Open Innovation and the GreenTouch Consortium. As the Research Portfolio Director, she developed the process and infrastructure to support a balanced innovation research portfolio to address market opportunities while fostering research preeminence. She also led the Americas’ Entrepreneurial Boot Camp program to identify new ventures for the company and managed the technology integration of research assets into the Wireless and Access businesses.
Dr. Sikora’s technical background is in the area of Human Factors / User Experience (HF / UX). She holds a Ph.D. in Information and Cognitive Sciences and a Master’s degree in Industrial / Organizational Psychology. She has won multiple design awards, has over 20 publications, co-authored a book chapter, has been an invited speaker at conferences focused on user interface design and usability and her research is cited in the Handbook of Human-Computer Interaction. She worked at Unisys Corporation doing human factors research and development before she joined AT&T in 1993. Within Bell Labs, Dr. Sikora was able to evolve her contributions from practical application and research to technical and strategic program management.
